I don't mean to sound ungrateful or detract from what's going on but god, sometimes my mother really does manage to drive me crazy. There should be a rule about getting to approve your future step-father, right? I mean you should at least be told he even exists prior to the engagement.

I give up. I've spent two hours trying to wake Kevin up and all I've gotten for my trouble is a headache. So either my powers are on the fritz or whatever's doing this is a lot stronger than I am.
It would be really great if the next person who wakes up is a telepath. Or a healer. I'm not sure I have the patience to wait this out.

I'm having great fun choosing the reading list for next semester. So far you can all expect some Joseph Heller, Phillip Roth and Tennessee Williams. And maybe some Arthur Miller if I'm feeling particularly cruel.

Okay, so first of all. Thank you to everyone who came along and auditioned for the play. You were all amazing and I was thrilled at the turn out. Obviously Romeo and Juliet has more male parts than it does female, so some of you ladies are going to be having fun with your wardrobe choices. We also didn't have enough people overall so a few of you will be playing a minor part as well as your main part. It will all be convincing once you've been through make up. I promise!

If anyone has any questions or problems with their part then let me know ASAP, please. And if anyone else has changed their mind and would like to participate then you can still do so. We need plenty of extras for the crowd scenes.
Rehearsals will be every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 4.30pm - 5.30pm. Obviously this will increase as we get nearer to our performance date. The first meeting will be mainly housekeeping; handing out scripts, talking about the play, sorting out the crew, taking dress measurements etc. So I look forward to seeing you all (cast and crew) on Tuesday. So in an effort to inject some much needed life into our non-existent drama department, I've decided to organise a production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Now before any of you start yawning or calling Shakespeare boring, I've deliberately picked this play because I believe it's one that everyone can relate to no matter when it was written. And it also happens to have been one of his most successful plays too. If you haven't read Romeo and Juliet then I strongly suggest you pick up a copy from my teaching room and watch Baz Luhrmann's film adaptation. Not only does he do an excellent job of refreshing the text but I also think it could benefit anyone who struggles with Shakespeare's style of writing, which can be difficult.
Now to the matter of the play. Obviously I'll be looking to cast the principal characters so if you're interested in auditioning and already have an idea of which role you would like, tag this entry to let me know. Once I have the numbers and names I can set up auditions. As well as actors and actresses however, I also need stage hands. Everything from a prompter to costume designer to scenery painter. So if you shun the limelight but would still like to help out, a role behind the scenes might be your thing.
I should also mention that participation in this production is entirely voluntary and open to everyone, but those students who take on acting roles will receive extra credit for english class. Family members will of course be invited to opening night. Once things are up and running I'll be able to give you a better idea of when the first production will be. Questions, comments and suggestions are entirely welcome.

When we come back you'll all choose one of those books to write an essay and presentation on. Don't worry, they're all fairly short for novels. And that's the last thing I'll say about education until after summer vacation. I promise!

Hello, everyone. My name's Laurie Collins and I'm going to be your new English teacher. I promise I'll try to make the subject as painless as possible for those of you who will be in my class. I remember how boring lessons could be compared to the other things that used to go on at Xavier's. Or apparently still do, from what I've been told.
